Exhibition Creative Women About exhibition “Creative Women – Innovations from Sweden” The traveling exhibition “Creative Women – Innovations from Sweden” displays modern inventions and innovations developed by women in Sweden. This exhibition also shows how people in everyday situations and in most varied circumstances solve problems in a creative manner, find new solutions or improve the existing ones… Come up with innovative ideas and inventions of which some find their way to the market and general use. Many inventions from this exhibition were created out of the need to make the everyday activities easier, increase the comfort or safety. Some solutions are very simple but functional, while others required research and improvement of the initial idea. · The exhibition aims to encourage creative thinking, innovativeness and entrepreneurial spirit! · To encourage visitors to develop their ideas and engage in their realisation. · This is an inspiring exhibition, full of interesting, unexpected and fun innovations! · Some of them may be touched and tested and each of them may be an inspiration! Why women’s inventions? “Of the 55,000 museum exhibits in the collection of the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm, fewer than 100 are women’s inventions. Is this because women are less creative? We don’t think so!” The reasons should be sought in the unequal status of women in the society throughout history, because of which only few women managed to establish themselves in science and technology. Over the past 100 years, the status of women and their role in the society have changed drastically. With the achievement of gender equality, the number of educated women who find their place as scientists, engineers and inventors is on the rise. There are more and more women among inventors and innovators, both in Sweden and in other countries. Therefore it is important for their innovations to be present in the museum collections as well. The National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm has been working on increasing the share of women’s innovations in its collections since 2001. The exhibition “Creative Women – Innovations from Sweden” presents more than 40 women innovators living and working in Sweden. The youngest of them patented her invention when she was 15 and the oldest did so at the age of 87. In addition to innovations, the exhibition presents stories about what encouraged these women to come up with innovative solutions and how they developed and realised their ideas. This exhibition highlights the examples of women who managed to realise their inventions and enjoyed the process. It also aims to show that it is important for women to get more room in the society for their ideas and work. A part of the exhibition presents innovations of Serbian creative women, members of Belgrade Association of Inventors and students of Department for Industrial Design of the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. Guided tour: Monday: 17.30 – 18.00 (before the Monday Club) Other days: 13.00 – 14.00 and 18.00-19.00 |
